PLEASANT LAKE — Linda Jayneen Smith, 74, of Pleasant Lake passed away peacefully in the early hours of Sunday, Jan. 31, 2016. She was born on June 27, 1941, in Raven, Virginia, to Jay and Martha Herndon. She was the third of eight children; left surviving is her sister, Ruth. Also surviving is her husband of 54 years, Louis P. Smith. They were married on June 28, 1961. Their most memorable times together were spent filling their picnic basket with love and laughter, taking long walks and motorcycle rides. Together they had four children. Surviving of her children and their families are: Virginia Larry, Lisa Valentine, Stephanie Jackson and her husband, Rick, and Louis Jay Smith. She took great pride in her family and the loved ones of her family members. Surviving are her grandchildren and their families: Brandy Littlefield and her husband, Rick, Ryan Rogers, Dustin Smith and his wife, Talisha, Travis Smith and his wife, Cassandra, Raven Tonkel, Steven Walker, Jevnee Walker, Devan Burwell and her husband, Ross, Faith Valentine, Dakota Valentine and Candice Valentine. She truly believed that her great-grandchildren were nothing short of great. She spent as much time as she possibly could with each and every one of them: Chandra, Destiny, Aiden, Livia, Breann, Gavin, Sephany, Devlin, Zoey, Dylan, Isaiah, Amayah and Asher. 'Grandmothers don't just love their grandchildren every now and then … it's a love without an end. Amen.' She was more than just a wife, mother and a grandmother. She was a caregiver and a friend. She valued her job at Cameron Memorial Community Hospital working as a nurses' aide. She was also a volunteer at the local bingo hall and a member of the Moose Lodge. A celebration of life will be held March 12, 2016, at 1 p.m. at the Fremont Moose, 2051 W. Toledo St., Fremont, Indiana.
