Lillie M. GrissomMay 10, 1924 - March 27, 2015RaleighLillie M. Grissom, 90, of Raleigh, passed away on March 27, 2015. Lillie was born on May 10, 1924 in Wake County, NC, to the late Leroy and Clara Morgan. Lillie was a devoted and active member of Layden Memorial United Methodist Church. She held many positions over the years in the church, including Music Director where she worked with the choir, sang and played music. She worked for the Department of Corrections in the office for over 30 years. In her last role before she retired, she worked as Administrative Assistant for several administrations. Lillie was humble, quiet and dignified and was considered a true Southern lady. She always enjoyed traveling and was an avid reader. She also had a great love for gardening and painting, which she was still doing in her most recent days. Lillie is survived by her daughters, Delores Pollard, of Cary, NC, Phyliss Braswell, of Pinelevel, NC and Rita Woodard (John), of Durham, NC; step-son, Ryland Grissom (Sue), of Youngsville, NC; seven grandchildren, including one special grandchild, Angela Boone; eleven great grandchildren; sister, Marjorie Townes-Hough (Robert), of Raleigh, NC; and brother, Floyd T. Morgan (Ann), of Raleigh, NC. Lillie was preceded in death by her first husband, Roy G. Pollard; parents, Leroy and Clara Morgan; two brothers, Raymond and Nathan Morgan; and sister, Eva Morgan Waters. Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 31 from 12:30-2:00pm at Mitchell Funeral Home, 7209 Glenwood Ave., Raleigh, NC, followed by a funeral service at 2:00pm. Burial will follow at Brier Creek Memorial Gardens, 7600 ACC Blvd., Raleigh, NC.
