LAURINBURG — Gillie Ann Liles Edwards, 72, passed away on Oct. 23, 2013 at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.

The memorial service to celebrate her life will be at 2 p.m. on Oct. 27 at Saint Luke United Methodist Church officiated by Pastor Billy A. Olsen. Interment will follow the service in the Saint Luke United Methodist Church Columbarium. The family will receive friends following the services in the Church Fellowship Hall.

Gillie was born on March 27, 1941, loving daughter of the late William Irvin Liles and Ruby Frances Wilson Liles. She was the devoted wife to the late William S. Edwards, Sr. She and her late husband were the owner and operators of The SwiftMart, formerly in Laurinburg. She was an active member of Saint Luke United Methodist Church.

She was involved with her community, serving as a volunteer with the Alzheimer's Memory Walk and Scotland Memorial Hospital. She was also a member of The Laurinburg Pilot Club. Gillie was a special person, always striving to help others. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and friend that will truly be missed.

Surviving are her children Renee E. McGee and husband Brent of Fuquay-Varina and William "Bill" S. Edwards, Jr. and wife Jennifer of Castalia and seven grandchildren.

The family requests in lieu of flowers that memorial gifts be made in memory of Gillie to the Saint Luke United Methodist Church Bus Fund, 1501 Turnpike Road, Laurinburg, NC 28352 or Alzheimer's NC Memory Walk, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.
