Lenor Agnes Dow Obituary

Aug 16, 1914 - Sep 02, 2017

This obituary is administered by:
Leonor Agnes Dow August 16, 1914 September 2, 2017 On August 16, 1914, Leonor was born on the Tip Top family farm in Balsam Lake, Wisconsin. She was the third of eight children born to James J. and Caroline R. Hoey. Leonor graduated from Centuria High School, Centuria, Wisconsin, in the Class of 1932. She worked in St. Croix Falls, WI, making her way to Washington State. During WWII, she worked at Boeing as a "rivet bucketer," Rosie's teammate. She retired from the State of Washington, Dept. of Labor and Industries in 1978. She was proud to be a member of the Union and charter member of the Washington State Employees Credit Union. Throughout her life she traveled the world, including trips to Greece, Peru, Russia (USSR), England, Ireland, Scotland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico and the Panama Canal. After she retired from L&I, she remained active and held many jobs. For several years she worked in a carnival with her niece, Terri Ellen Slattery. At 90 and 91, she held a commercial fishing permit in Alaska with her Grandson Greg. This was a highlight in her life, plus meeting and talking to all who dropped by the fish camp to see if the rumor of her working there was true. She loved the attention, and the "fish tales" were numerous and very TALL. She truly loved people. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church and a member of the Legion of Mary. As a member of the Legion of Mary, her job was to call the parish's elderly population, the "old people," as she called them lovingly. She had to be reminded that she was often older than the "old people" she contacted. She would just laugh and kept on keeping on. She also was involved in many clubs and organizations, from which many of her great stories originated. Leonor was preceded in death by her daughter, Jerrie Ann; grandson, Michael; mother and father; brothers, Harold and Percy; sisters, Irene, Helen, Louise, and Onie. Leonor also was preceded in death by her husbands, Claude Holland, Willard Runyan, and Sidney Dow. Leonor passed away September 2, 2017 in Olympia, WA, at age 103. She leaves behind her sister, Dorothy King of Oakdale, CA; her daughter, Jean Lewis of Tumwater; grandson, Greg (Trish) Johnson; granddaughter, Carrie Ann (Andy) Gulley; great grandsons, Chad (Kailey) Strong, Bo Strong, Mason and Merrick Johnson, and Wyatt Gulley; great granddaughters, Kelsey Gulley, Kaitlyn (Nick) Garrison, Alexa and Emma Gulley; three great-great granddaughters, Rielynn, Marlee and Shaylee Strong; and great-great grandson, Baylen Garrison. She was affectionately known as "Little Grandma" to her great and great-great grandchildren. In addition, many nieces and nephews from Wisconsin, Oregon, Washington, California and Ireland will miss her a lot. She always had good thoughts and wishes for them all. A Memorial Mass will be held Friday, September 22, 2017, 12:00 noon at St. Michael Catholic Church, 1055 Boundary Street, Olympia, WA. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations be made to her favorite charity, The KNOM Radio Mission, PO Box 190649, Anchorage, AK 99519.
