Lena B. (Orris) Briggs, who had resided at Heritage Health the past 12 years, passed away from her earthly home on Dec. 16, 2016, to her heavenly home.She was 102 years of age. She was born on June 17, 1914, in Scott County, the daughter of James Leroy Orris and Emma (Sutton) Orris. She married the love of her life, Archie William "Bill" Briggs, on Dec. 10, 1934, he preceded her in death Jan. 15, 1984.Lena is survived by her children, Shelby Pennell (Reggie, deceased), Karen Decker (Edmond, deceased) and Bill P. Briggs; eight grandchildren, Timm Pennell (Susan), Scott Pennell (Chris), Michael (Teresa), Gina Settles (Randy), Kim Jones (Bill), Jim Coats (Connie), and Rusty Briggs (Sherie); 20 great-grandchildren, Adam Logue, Holly Pennell (Matt), Ethan and Dillon Pennell, Dr. Matthew Pennell and Jordan Pennell, Megan Glover (Adam), Lauren and Cameron Pennell, Brendan and Garrett Settles, Nick Derks, Sarah, Sam, Kursten and Kyle Jones, Jesse and Jadeyn Coats, Tyler Simms and Trevor Stratton; eight great-great grandchildren; Amelia Pennell, Amarah and Avery Melcher, Rebekha and Emmalynn Jones, Kylie and Camden Jones, and Olivia Simms; and one brother, Kenneth Orris. She was preceded in death by one son, Archie Lee "Buddy" Briggs; a grandson, Anthony Briggs; nine brothers and sisters, Mildred May Welsh, Harry Lee Orris, Hazel Ellen Painter, Edna Ann Briggs, Marie Jane McDaniel, Floyd Washington Orris, Charles Allen Orris, Helen Tiff, and Chester William Orris.She was a lady of great faith which carried her through many trials in her life time. She always had a smile and words of encouragement for all of those who she came in contact with. She was baptized in a small river in Alsey, by Pastor Charles Hayes on the 13th day of May, 13 children were baptized, her being the 13th one, when she was 13 years old. She was lovingly called "Little Bit" at her home at Heritage Health. She had a great love of flowers which she received many of and shared with all. She loved working with flowers for a time she worked at Lovekamp Greenhouse on West Walnut.She loved her family with a passion and her greatest joy was spending time with them. She was in turn loved by all and will be missed by a great many.A funeral service will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday at Williamson Funeral Home in Jacksonville.
