Leila B. McGee was born on April, 15, 1920 in Winter Park, Florida to Nancy Wilson and James Baker. After a valiant fight with persistent poor health, Leila went to her final rest on January 19, 2017 surrounded by her two daughters, Carolyn McGee and Thelma Snowden of Sacramento. Leila had the opportunity to say her final goodbyes, during in-home visits and telephone conversations with numerous relatives and friends in her declining weeks. Leila was preceded in death by her devoted husband of thirty seven years, Stewart McGee Sr., grandson Matthew Jordan Anderson, older sister Carrie B. Barthlomew, and her parents. Leila, a longtime resident of Firebaugh, Calif. for 72 years moved to the Sacramento area in 2012 where she continued active involvement in the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses instantly becoming the oldest member of the congregation. She established many friendships in her new location. In addition to her daughters, Leila is survived by two sons, Adolphus McGee, Sacramento, Commander Stewart McGee Jr. (Ret.) USNOAA, Los Altos; daughter-in-law Karen McGee and son-in law, Robert Snowden Sr., beloved grandchildren, B.J. Snowden (Michele) Elk Grove, Karesha McGee, San Francisco, Martin McGee Hollywood, Kabrielle McGee, Chevy Chase, Maryland and Dy'nice Henderson (DeLon) Woodstock, Georgia, two great-grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews, great-nieces and great-nephews who will forever cherish her memory. Leila loved to entertain friends and relatives with stories of her childhood growing up in rural Mississippi and of her early days living on farm camps in California. Leila was never remiss in imparting words of wisdom or her rules on longevity to rapt audiences. She will also be remembered as a phenomenal cook and for her interest in home dcor. A celebration of Leila's life will be held on Tuesday, January 31st @ 11:00 am, viewing at 10:00 at Whitehurst Sullivan Burns & Blair Funeral Home 1525 East Saginaw St. Fresno, Calif. Interment immediately following at Fresno Memorial Gardens, 175 So. Cornelius Avenue, Fresno. A Memorial Service will also be held in Sacramento at the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah's Witnesses (Vintage Park) at a later date.
