Costello, Lawrence (Larry) Dennis Jr. Lawrence (Larry) Dennis Costello, Jr., age 93, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 6, 2017 at in Surprise, Arizona surrounded by family. He was born on October 21, 1923 in Hartford, Connecticut to Lawrence and Mabel Costello. Larry grew up in Hartford, Connecticut and graduated from Hartford Public High School in 1941. After high school he joined the
United States Navy in 1942 and served for 3 1/2 years in
World War II as a Radarman Second Class in the Atlantic and Pacific and was the recipient of these military ribbons: European African Middle Eastern Campaign, the American Campaign, Philippine Liberation, Asiatic Pacific Campaign, World War II Victory, Navy Unit Commendation, and Navy Good Conduct. He was honorably discharged in 1945. He worked as a Construction Engineer for Charter Oak Construction Company and retired in 1984 after working for 20 years as a Construction Engineer for the State of Connecticut. Larry married the love of his life, Elaine Morrow, in 1944 in Hartford, CT. They were happily married for 73 years. Larry was a member of the All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church and the Lions Club of Sun City AZ. Larry is survived by his spouse, Elaine, of Sun City, AZ; his children Lauren (Daut) Rizvani, of Germantown Hills, IL; Steven Costello of Old Lyme, CT; Cheryl (Charles) Pelkey of Windsor Locks, CT; Jay (Gail) Costello of West Hartford, CT; Kim (Dusty) Anderson of Glendale, AZ; his sister Dolores Von Behren of Hemet, CA; 14 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and 3 great-great-grandchildren. Larry enjoyed traveling, camping and RVing throughout North America and Europe with his wife and family members. He liked to write poetry and to cook, and was known to take pleasure in playing a joke at times on his family and friends. Cremation will be by Science Care Hope Program and a memorial service will be held at the All Saints of the Desert Episcopal Church in Sun City on Thursday, October 26 at 11:00 a.m. The family is grateful for the condolences, but declines flowers and donations.
