Smith, LAURALEE Age 80; of Mt. PleasantMichigan; passed away at her home on Monday, October 24, 2016. Lauralee was born on August 16, 1936 in Mt. Pleasant, the daughter of Donald Elmer and Josephine (Powis) Baughman. On April 7, 1955, she married James R. Smith in Mt. Pleasant. James preceded her in death on July 31, 1990. Lauralee was a homemaker. She followed her husband in his travels with the U.S. Army to duty stations all over the world. She was a Life Member of the Ladies Auxiliary of the VFW. She enjoyed her cat Peekaboo and finch Lily. She liked doing yard work and still mowed her lawn with her riding lawnmower. She enjoyed feeding the birds and squirrels and watching them from her chair. As an avid crocheter, she made many crocheted afghans for loved ones and for the Veterans Home in Saginaw. Lauralee loved to read, reading a book in two to three days, mostly Westerns. She also enjoyed watching British mystery shows on the television. Lauralee is survived by her four sons: Donald (Barb) Smith of Sheridan, MI, Michael (Shawna) Smith of Lansing, MI, Robert (Toni) Smith of Mt. Pleasant and Brian Smith of Mt. Pleasant. Also twelve grandchildren, many great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Lauralee was preceded in death by her husband, both parents and a brother. A celebration of Lauralee’s life will be held on Friday, October 29, 2016 at 1 p.m. from the Rowley Funeral Home in Mt. Pleasant with Pastor Connie Bongard officiating. Interment will follow the service in Chippewa Township Cemetery. Friends may gather with the family on Friday from 11 a.m. until the time of the service.
