LaRue Burrup JohnsonJanuary 11, 1920 - February 16, 2016LaRue Fisher Burrup Johnson, 96, passed away on Feb. 16, 2016 in South Jordan, Utah. She was born on 11 January 1920, in the home of her parents in Oxford, Bannock, Idaho. She was the fourth child of Albert Lee Fisher and Selma Matilda Olson. LaRue attended grade school in Oxford. She was bused to Downey, Idaho, where she graduated from high school in 1937. She continued her education in Pocatello, Idaho, at the University of Idaho Southern Branch. It was here that she met and was courted by Melvin L Burrup. After completing her associate degree she taught elementary school in Weston, Idaho. Melvin worked at a pharmacy in Rigby, Idaho, and their courtship continued by mail. LaRue and Melvin were married in the Salt Lake City LDS Temple on May 28, 1941.After several moves they made their permanent home in Preston, Idaho. They opened their own drugstore, Mel's Drug, and they owned it until 1981. Melvin passed away on 13 September 1981 and Mel's Drug was sold. LaRue resumed teaching school in Preston elementary schools. In 1987 she married Voris E. Johnson, and he also preceded her in death on 26 December 2006.She is survived by her seven children and their spouses, daughters Lorre Jean Anderson and Melanie Gibb, and sons Edward, Robert, John, Bill and Tom Burrup. She is survived by 24 grandchildren, six step-grandchildren, 60 great-grandchildren with three more on the way, and five step-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two brothers and one sister. She was preceded in death by one stepson and three grandchildren.Funeral services will be held at noon Monday, 22 February 2016, at the Preston South Stake Center. A viewing will be held at Webb Mortuary on Sunday from 6 to 8 p.m. and before the funeral at the Preston South Stake Center from 10 to 11:30 a.m. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery.
