Lucy Ann Gholson, 100, formerly of Hopewell went to be with her Lord and Savior Monday, November 21, 2016, at Morristown Memorial Hospital in Morristown, NJ. She was preceded in death by her daughter, Dorothy Maclin; and also by her 4 siblings including Clarence "Dick" Gholson and Katie Wyche. Lucy Ann was born on March 10, 1916, in Dinwiddie, Va. She moved to Hopewell at an early age. She attended school until 3rd grade when she stopped to help her mother with laundering and ironing clothes as a source of income. She joined the Mt. Carmel Church in Hopewell where she was a member in good standing. She served in the Choir and on the Missionary Board and she was a member of the King David Lodge. In her younger days she loved the outdoors especially fishing and hiking. She was well known for her cooking and baking skills and often sold dinners for income. She was employed at the Hercules Industrial Plant during World War II while it had converted to supply ammunition to support the war.She obtained her driver's license at the age of 50 and often transported her group of church ladies around town. In the early 60s while working for a local Doctor and his family in Chester, Va., she moved with them when they relocated to Bernardsville, NJ. In 1969 she moved to Morristown and was employed at the Tenco-Tetley Company retiring in 1983. She also held jobs with AT&T and the Consapak Company. She joined Union Baptist Church under the leadership of Rev. Charles Marks. She was a member in good standing and The Mother of her Church. Until the last several years she was an active member and served on the Pastors Aide Minsitry, The Choir, Golden Heritage, Women's Fellowship, she headed the Kitchen Ministry, faithfully attended Sunday School, and Divine Communication and she was a Missionary. She was a lifetime member of the NAACP.To celebrate her 100th Birthday her church showered her with a lavish celebration program attended by family and friends, several Morristown Government Officials, a local news reporter and the NJ State NAACP Branch President. On that day she received special recognition and proclamations including a letter from President Barack Obama and the First Lady. She is survived by two grandchildren, Jackie Maclin of Hopewell, Jerry Maclin of Edgewood, Md.; mother of great-grandchildren, Genevieve Blackgoat; four great-grandchildren, Jamila Maclin, Kamil Maclin, Rashida Maclin and Arsheala Maclin; two great-great granchildren, Tanaya Price, little AJ Harvin; and AJ's father, Frank Harvin, all of Edgewood, Md. She is also survived by the children and extended families of her brother, Dick and her sister, Katie; a host of other family and friends in the Tri-Cities area; and Rev.
