LORRAINE ESTHER (POLZIN) PAULSON Celebration of Life Lorraine Esther (Polzin) Paulson passed away peacefully on November 10, 2016. She was born on March 17, 1928 at home in Amboy Township, Cottonwood County, Minnesota to Herman and Vina Mae (Wright) Polzin. She was placed in Jesus arms in baptism on the same day, and on May 3, 1942 she was confirmed at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Windom, Minnesota. Lorraine grew up on a farm with one brother and five sisters. She started her elementary education in a country school and graduated from the Windom High School in 1946. Immediately following graduation she began working for the Northwestern Bell Telephone Company as a telephone operator and continued that career until the switch board was closed in 1981. She was married to John Snyder Paulson on February 12, 1949 and they were blessed with four wonderful children; Jacki (Jim) Frederickson, Richland, WA, Mitch (Lucy) Paulson, Missoula, MT, Jim(Cathy) Paulson, Shakopee, MN, and Curt (Jan) Paulson, St. Louis, MO. They raised their family, and lived and worked, in Windom until they retired. After retirement, she and John started RVing and joined the Holiday Ramblers. They enjoyed the monthly meetings and going to the conventions with friends. Eventually they started to winter in Arizona and moved there permanently in 1997. John died in 2004. Lorraine stayed in Arizona and married Lionel (Lefty) Dichard in 2007. She and Lefty had a brief, happy marriage until his death in 2008. In 2011 she moved to Richland, Washington to be near her daughter, residing in the Riverton Retirement Community. She loved her church and was an active member of the Lutheran Women's Missionary League, taught Bible school and was active in several other church organizations. For a number of years she cared for foster babies, was "mom" to an Exchange student from Norway, and was a Cub Scout leader. She was skilled at knitting, and knit caps for premature infants, baby sweaters for Lutheran World Relief and items for the Seaman's Church Institute in New Jersey. She enjoyed playing cards, and became a member of a bridge club and a whist club. She also enjoyed reading and doing jigsaw puzzles. Her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren have many fond memories of playing cards and games with her around the dining room table up to the time of her death. In addition to her husbands, Lorraine was preceded in death by a grandson, Matthew Paulson, brother Laurence Polzin and sisters Vina Niemann, Velma Mann, Mavis Brand, Irene Hartberg and Myrtle Feil. She is survived by her four children, and the following ten grandchildren, and eleven great grand children.
