LAURA CURNUTT Laura Curnutt, 101, of Benton City, WA died November 16, 2016 at home surrounded by her family. Laura was born on October 28, 1915 in Creighton, Nebraska to William and Elsie (Howder) Halverson. She was raised and attended South Dakota schools until her marriage to Walter Bradley in November 1932. They had six children and settled in northern Idaho in 1947. Walter preceded her in death in 1955. In 1961 Laura moved to Sunnyside, WA where she met and married Elton Curnutt in 1964. They ran a small family farm and later owned and operated a peach orchard. Laura also worked as a nurse's aide until she retired in 1984. They enjoyed a 38 year marriage until Elton's death in 2002. Laura loved the outdoors and gardening. She raised a bounty of fruits, vegetables, and dozens of different types of flowers. Her hobbies included quilting, crocheting, and embroidery. She was an avid reader and especially liked old western novels. She ran her small farm alone until the age of 98. She moved to Benton City in 2013 to be near family but still lived alone until age 100. She is survived by her children Barbara James of Spokane; Evelyn (Alan) Creighton of Benton City; and William Bradley of North Bend; 11 grand children, 23 great grandchildren, and 16 great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; both husbands; children Walter, Donald, and Joyce; grandson Walter; 5 brothers and 2 sisters; numerous nieces and nephews. The family would like to thank the nurses and chaplains from Chaplaincy Hospice Care for their kindness and support A Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, November 19, 2016 at 11:00 AM at the First Baptist Church of Benton City 1103 Horne Road, Benton City, WA. 99320. A Graveside Service will be held on Monday, November 21, 2016 at 2:00 PM at Lower Valley Memorial Gardens in Sunnyside, WA. In lieu of flowers the family suggests a donation to Salvation Army or Union Gospel Mission.
