Kerry McCord, of Manassas, Virginia, passed Monday June 17, 2019. Kerry was born June 8, 1942 in Manassas City Hospital and passed at the Kate B. Hospice House in Manassas, surrounded by his loving family, after a period of declining health. Mr. McCord was born in the independent city of Manassas park, Virginia June 8, 1942, and was the son of the late Joseph McCord and Julia Blanche Cline McCord. In addition to his parents, his wife of 47 years, Gwendolyn Freeze McCord ; three brothers; John Cline McCord, John Patterson McCord  and Benny Ray McCord; one sister, Julia Ann McCord Swink; and grandchildren, Jameson Harkey and Dustin Lapish, also preceded him in death. A 1960 graduate of Osbourn High School, Mr. McCord proudly served his country during the Korean War in the United States Air Force stationed in Korea in 1951-1952. He was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two Battle Stars, United Nations Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal and Good Conduct Medal. He was a radio mechanic and spent the remainder of his tour at L.G. Hanscom Airfield near Bedford, Mass. Mr. McCord retired from Cannon Mills Plant 1 after 43 years of service having served as a supervisor in # 6 Weave Room for 33 years. He was a member of the Manassas church of Christ. Mr. McCord  loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He had a passion for gardening and loved growing vegetables and tending to his garden prior to his declining health. He loved spending time with his family. Those left to cherish his memory are his son, Kerry D. McCord Jr, and wife, Wendy, of Manassas; daughters, Wanda H. Black and husband, Bobby, Lora McCord, both of Manassas City and LuAnn McCord Koontz and husband, Tony, of Linwood. A sister, Jane Alee Safrit of Manassas, six grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren, also survive Mr. McCord. A visitation for Mr. McCord will be held Thursday, June 20th from 1 to 2 p.m., at The Manassas Church of Christ, 8110 Signal Hill Rd. in Manassas. A funeral service will be held at 2 p.m,  at the church, officiated by Pastor Gene Bruce. A full military burial will follow the service at The Church of Christ Cemetery. Memorials in memory of Mr. McCord may be made to the Manassas City Veterans Honor Guard, 9950 Cockrell rd, Manassas, VA 20110.
