Kenny Pierce, a long-time resident, passed away suddenly in his home on March 21, 2017. He was born on September 3, 1935 to Ruby and Guy Pierce in Pharr, Texas. He was one of four children; a brother Donald, a brother Butch and a sister Faye-all deceased. He was a one of a kind man who lived his life under the radar, meeting life on his own terms, living "deliberately", mostly without a telephone, a car or a tv. His doors and windows were always open, not just to humans but to squirrels, skunks, birds and bears. He earned only what he needed, doing odd jobs, mostly construction. Many Ruidosoans would see him walking wherever he needed to go. Walking was a pleasure, a close-up view of Ruidoso. He relished in living, going to the coffee shop, conversing with friends, reading papers, magazines, books,…and he wrote, story after story after story. File drawers and boxes full of ideas and stories. He wrote and read for the pure pleasure of it, knew authors and their histories, knew movies and the actors. He was a gentle and loving soul who owned next to nothing but was a personally ambitious man, concentrating not on the acquisition of things but on the improvement of his mind and heart.Kenny is survived by a sister-in-law Chris Pierce of North Caolina; a nephew Charles Pierce; and several nieces Debbie Pierce, Dina Hansen, Faye Palmeter, Rachell Hawell and Renee Pigg. For those who would like to share memories or express condolences, please email Debbie at
