Lt. Col. Kenneth (Ken) Woodland1/10/1940-10/13/2016 Ken Woodland, 76, passed away on October 13, 2016 with his wife and family beside him. He was born on January 10, 1940 in Norristown, Penn. and graduated from Eisenhower High School in Norristown in 1957. He attended Penn State University, Sacramento State University and was awarded a Bachelor of General Studies from Chaminade University of Honolulu in 1978. He went on to earn a Master of Business Administration from Chaminade in 1979.He joined the United States Air Force Aviation Cadet Officer Training Program in Harlingen, Texas in June of 1960. Upon graduation as a Navigator, he was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant and assigned to Beale AFB, Calif. Before going to Beale, he returned to Pennsylvania to marry June, the love of his life. In 1966, he entered the Undergraduate Pilot Training program at Vance AFB, Enid, Oklahoma, graduating in 1967. He was a veteran of the Vietnam War and also served in Japan, Korea and Hawaii. He retired from active duty as a Lieutenant Colonel in 1980 after serving for over 21 years. After his retirement from the Air Force, he began a second career in Banking. Because no one believed he could do anything but fly airplanes, he had to start his banking career as a Teller but was quickly promoted to Branch Manager. Health conditions forced him to retire from the work force in 1997.He leaves behind his precious wife of over 55 years, June, daughter Cindy (Tom), of Granite Bay, Calif; son Scott (Jennifer), of Roseville, Calif; grandchildren Paige, Courtney, Ryan, Madison, Logan and Peyton and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves behind his precious cat, Samantha (Sam), who took many naps with him. At bedtime, all Ken would have to do was wave his hand and tell Sam it was time to go to bed and off they would both go. I told him many times that I thought they were attached at the hip because she would follow him everywhere.He was preceded in death by his parents, Amon and Elizabeth, three sisters: Verna Frisco, Ruth Detwiler and Gertrude Woodland, and four brothers: Wesley, Paul, Gordon and David.There will be a "Celebration of his Life" service on Saturday, November 5 at 11 a.m. at the Pleasant Grove Community Church, 1730 Pleasant Grove Blvd, Roseville, Calif. Interment will be at the Arlington National Cemetery in Virginia at a later date. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made in his memory to either the Pleasant Grove Community Church, 1730 Pleasant Grove Blvd., Roseville, CA 95747 or the Placer County SPCA, 150 Corporation Yard Rd., Roseville, CA 95678.
