Kenneth "Pappy" R. KriderCHILLICOTHE - Kenneth "Pappy" R. Krider, age 89, of Chillicothe passed away on Wednesday morning, Nov. 16, 2016, at home with his family by his side.Ken was born on Nov. 24, 1926, in Lewistown and the son of Reuben and Bessie (Beadles) Krider. He married the love of his life, Josephine E. Barnes, on Aug. 24, 1945, at the Methodist Church in Lewistown.Surviving are two daughters, Ruth (Ken) Hale of Eva, TN, and Diane (Pete Ross) Krider of Mt. Pleasant, MI; one son, Keith (Debra) Krider of Chillicothe; 14 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and five great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; seven brothers and sisters; a son, Kenneth E. Krider; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren. Ken graduated from Lewistown High School in 1944 and worked on the family farm. He was employed by the railroad for seven years and later at Caterpillar Tractor Company for 36 years as a machine builder and tool maker. He was a member of the UAW Local 974 until retiring in 1988.Ken built the family home in Peoria Heights. He was an active member of the Fire Department and Civil Defense. He served as a volunteer fireman for 35 years and was named "Pappy" by the younger firefighters. Later he enjoyed antique tractors and was a member of the River Valley Antique Tractor Association. His greatest pride and labor of love was his published Krider Family Genealogy book that came to fruition after years of researching the family history.Ken was a member of the Glen Oak Christian Church and was a devoted member of the George Washington Masonic Lodge #222. He served in numerous leadership positions at the Lodge.A Masonic service will be held at 12 noon on Saturday, Nov. 19, 2016, at Weber-Hurd Funeral Home in Chillicothe followed by a funeral ceremony. Rev. Randy Williams will officiate. Visitation will be held from 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday prior to the service at the funeral home. Memorials may be to Glen Oak Christian Church or to George Washington Lodge #222.
