Okkerse, The Rev. Kenneth H.The Reverend Kenneth H. Okkerse, age 88, of Neenah passed away on Sunday morning, January 29, 2017 at his home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on November 10, 1928 in Yonkers, NY, son of the late Bertram and Jennie (Cook) Okkerse. While studying at Julliard, Ken was called to the Priesthood, and earned his Licentiate in Theology from General Seminary in New York. Ken's priesthood began in Missoula, MT; took him all over the country; and ended up in Neenah, WI. Though he retired in 1990, Ken continued to supply and to support the church. On June 18, 1955 Ken married the love of his life, Grace Van De Wint at Grace Church in Westwood, New Jersey. Their marriage was blessed with four children and 60 wonderful years before Grace preceded Ken in death on July 8, 2015. Music, theater, and opera were very important to Ken. He formerly played in dance bands, sang in numerous musical comedies and operas, acted in numerous plays, Played the cello in orchestras, string quartets, and trios. He loved accompanying Grace in Trios as well.Ken is survived by his children: Mark Van De Wint (Susan Malton) Okkerse, Punta Gorda, FL; Jenelle Alyce Okkerse, Penn Valley, CA; Philip James (Corinna Lynn) Okkerse, Sturgeon Bay; Christopher Lawrence (Kristine Marie) Okkerse, Menasha; grandchildren: Peter, Megan, Elliott, Salvatore, Michelle, Christina, Paul, Kenneth, Cara, Holly, Adam, Cassandra, Heather; 19 great grandchildren and one on the way. In addition to his parents, and his beloved wife, Grace; Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Warren Okkerse.A Celebration of Father Ken's life will be held on Saturday, February 4, 2017 at 4:00 p.m. at St. Thomas Church (226 Washington St., Menasha) with Bishop Matthew Gunter, The Rev. Ralph Osborne, and The Rev. William Johnston officiating. Friends will be received directly at the church on Saturday from 2:30 p.m. until the hour of service, and the gathering will continue at the conclusion of the service. Ken will be inurned next to Grace in the Columbarium at St. Thomas Church. In lieu of flowers, a memorial fund is being established in Ken's name.Westgor Funeral Home205 W.
