This obituary is administered by:
Joy Thomas BecklerTreadway, TNJoy Thomas Beckler (J.T.), age 90, of Treadway, died on January 8, 2017, at Heritage Rehabilitation Center in Morristown, following a brief illness. He was born on January 29, 1926, in Hancock County, where he resided all his life. In his earlier years, he was known as June or Junior in the community; and later preferred to be called J.T. He was called "Pop" by many of his friends, acquaintances, and business associates; and his grandchildren called him "Poppy." He started driving a truck at age 8, for his father, who was in the logging and sawmill business and began his own trucking and bulldozer grading business, in November 1943 right before marrying his wife, Juanita. He was fortunate to follow his passion and love of working outdoors in many different locations throughout the region until he was 86 years old. During the last twenty years of his career, he worked with his son-in-law and grandson at Trent Excavating. Even though he had a few health issues after retiring, he continued to drive, have a sharp memory, and live alone; and he loved spending his time with his family and traveling with them, especially if his grandson and great-grandchildren were going along. He is survived by three daughters and sons-in-law, Peggy and Ambrose Brewer, Morristown, Aletha and Roger Lee Trent, Russellville, Janie and Michael Lee (Mike) Beck, Morristown; one grandson and his wife, Kevin and Julianna Trent, Dandridge; and three great-grandchildren, Kelanna Love Trent, Railyn Leigh Trent, and Zane Beckler Trent; sister, Pauline Johnson and her husband, Bernie of Franklin, Ohio; several nieces and nephews; and special friend and good neighbor, Mike McCoy. He was preceded in death by his wife, Juanita Wolfe Beckler; parents, Thomas (Tom) and Dollie Greene Beckler; brother, Hugh Beckler; sisters, Bonnie Ferguson and Dorothy Livesay; nephews, Ronnie Johnson and Darryl Livesay. Special thanks are extended to the kind, caring, and helpful staff at the Heritage Rehabilitation Center in Morristown during his last days. Gratitude and appreciation is extended to physician, Dr. John Short, who has provided above and beyond medical treatment and numerous home visits. The family will receive friends from 1:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. with funeral services at 4:00 p.m., Saturday, January 14, War Creek Baptist Church, 5430 Highway 31 Road, Sneedville, with The Reverend David Wheeler (Papaw Wheels) officiating. Music will be performed by Tony Collins and The Byrd Family. Interment will be on Sunday, January 15, 2:00 p.m., at Hamblen Memory Gardens, Morristown. Pallbearers are grandson, Kevin Trent; great-grandson, Zane Beckler Trent; and Roger Lee Trent, Mike Beck, Ambrose Brewer, Greg Johnson, Mike McCoy, Roger Dalton, Freddie Brown, and Les McDonald. Memorial contributions may be made to War Creek Baptist Church. Funeral arrangements provided by John McNeil – McNeil Funeral Home in Sneedville.
