Josephine (Mena) Lanway February 6, 1934 - March 9, 2014Josephine Lanway February 6, 1934 - March 9, 2014 A graveside committal was held for Josephine Lanway, 80, in Coos Bay, OR on Saturday, March 15, 2014. Josephine was born on February 6, 1934 in Pocatello, Idaho to Genaro Mena and Carmen ( Guitierrez ) Mena. She passed away on March 9, 2014 in Springfield, Or.. Josephine married Donald L. Lanway on August 16, 1952 in Elko, Nevada. Together they raised two sons, Donald and Edward. Josephine was a member of the Christian Women's Club, Greenacres Grange and the Coos County Election Board. She also taught preschool age children at Sunday School and volunteered at the Hospice Thriftstore. She was a member of the Emmanuel Baptist Church in Coquille. She enjoyed sewing, decorating and craftmaking. One of her special joys was the annual summer vacation the Lanway family would make to Pocatello to visit family and friends. Don and Josie never missed a summer coming to Pocatello, stopping along the Salmon river where Don spent time fishing and Josie enjoyed her time in the wilderness. When Josie was just an infant her mother passed away and her father placed her with Josefa and Donaciano Zazweta. She was lovingly welcomed to the family and joined their children Juanita (Huerta), Alvaro, Frank, Rosie (Stoker) and Dellie (Saldana) Zazweta. Josephine is survived by her husband of 61 years, Donald L. Lanway of Coos Bay; son, Edward Lanway of Coos Bay; son, Donald E. Lanway of Coos Bay; sister, Margaret Sierra Ramos; sister, Margaret Mena Jones; brother, John Mena; granddaughters Nicole Fitzhugh of Portland and Samantha Dawn Lanway of Coos Bay; half sisters Theresa and Sophia Mena of Pocatello, Dellie Saldana of California and numerous nieces, nephews and extended family.Josephine was preceded in death by her parents, Genaro and Carmen Mena; and her siblings, Manuel Sierra, Gilbert Sierra, Benjamin Sierra Garcia, Ophelia Sierra Gonzales, Mary Mena Rodriguez.Josies smile and infectious laughter will be dearly missed by family and friends.There will be a celebration of life in Josie's memory on March 26, 2014 from 4-7PM at the Best Western Cotton Tree Inn, 1415 Bench Rd, Pocatello, ID.
