Joseph William Dick Jr., 66, of Laporte, MN, died Saturday, July 5, 2014 at the Sandford Bemidji Medical Center in Bemidji, MN.Joseph was born on February 7, 1948 in Cass Lake MN, the son of Joseph Sr. and Emily Frances (Helip) Dick, maternal grandson of Willy Helip. He was raised and educated in Minnesota. He enlisted in the U.S.
Army in 1966, served in the
Vietnam War and was honorably discharged as Sergeant and Communications Specialist. He worked for Northwestern Bell Telephone for 29 years. He retired in 2000. Joseph hunted and fished in Minnesota then moved to the Fort Yuma Reservation in 2013.Joseph is survived by his former wife, Cicely Dick and their children, William Dick, Rita Dick, and Ira Smart; former partner, Kim Tellinghuisen and their daughter, Nakia Tellinghuisen; siblings, Rosie Reed, Patsy Beaulieu, Bonita DeWeaver, Maxine Day, Elaine Gotchie, and Arnie Dick; grandchildren, William Franklin Dick, Willow Grace Lee and Meadow Lee; numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Anthony Dick, Melvin Dick and Lester Dick.Due to unforeseen circumstances Tribal Rites have changed to Saturday, November 15, 2014 at 5:00 p.m. at the Quechan Cemetery and end before dawn on Sunday, November 16, 2014.
