Joseph R. WaibelPEORIA - Joseph R. Waibel, 88, of Peoria, IL, passed away at 9:47 p.m. on Thursday, December 1, 2016, at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on April 18, 1928, in Peoria, IL, to Frederick and Laura (Wilkenson) Waibel. He married Patricia A. Kemmer on April 11, 1953, in Peoria. She passed away on September 15, 2015.Surviving are his children, Gregory (Laurie) Waibel of Congerville, IL, Jody (Wesley) Smith of Roberts, IL, and Bernie Waibel of Peoria; grandsons, Nathan Waibel, Jacob Waibel, Matthew Waibel and Kurt Smith; granddaughters, Angela Waibel and Lisa Schell; and great-grandson, Joseph Schell.He was preceded in death by two brothers and one sister.He graduated from Woodruff High School in 1946. He then enlisted in the U.S. Army in 1948. He graduated from Bradley University with a degree in Architectural Design.Joe worked at Lauterbach Lumber Company, Peoria School District 150 and Town and Country Construction. He was an Eagle Scout and served as an assistant Scoutmaster for Troop 46 of Peoria. Joe was a member of St. Mary's, St. Peter's and St. Bernard's Catholic Churches, all of Peoria. He also served as an Eucharistic Minister.Cremation rites have been accorded. A memorial service will be held at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, December 6, 2016, at Mason Funeral Home Germantown Hills Chapel with Deacon Rob Heiple officiating. Visitation will be held from 5 p.m. until service time at the funeral home.
