Jose Manuel Lucero, 67, a resident of Las Vegas, passed away on Tuesday, Sept. 20, 2016, at his home, surrounded by his family.He was born on April 2, 1949 in Las Vegas to his parents, Luis O. Lucero and Rafaelita Aragon Lucero. A Catholic, and attended Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas.He was a police officer with the Las Vegas Police Department for four years. He also taught for the Santa Rosa Public Schools for seven years and at Robertson High School for 26 years and was a sponsor for the Close up Program. He loved to fix fences and ride horseback at his ranch.He is preceded in death by his son, Manuel C. Lucero; maternal grandparents, Severo B. and Dolores Aragon; parents, Luis O. and Rafaelita Lucero; paternal grandparents, Jose Leandro and Predicanda Lucero; sister, Bersabe Torres; brothers, Alfonso Lucero, Saturnino Lucero and Jesus Lucero; baby brother, Abran Lucero; nephews, Steve W. Lucero, Charles Torres and Paul Torres and niece, Ava Torres.He is survived by his loving wife, Maira D, Lucero of the family home; son, Jose Luis Lucero of Ojitos Frios; grandsons and granddaughter, Lane Johnson, Emmanuel Lucero and Sophia Lucero, all of Arboles, Colo., and Jordan Trujillo of Albuquerque; brothers, Luis L. Lucero and Henry Lucero of Ojitos Frios; daughter-in-law, Angelica M. Lucero of Arboles, Colo.; numerous nieces, nephews, one great-grandson and many friends. Cremation has taken place. Rosary services will be held at 7 p.m. on Friday. Funeral services will be conducted at 1 p.m. Saturday with both services to be held at Our Lady of Sorrows Church in Las Vegas with Father Douglas Mitchell as celebrant.
