Matthews Sr., Jonathon W.Jonathon W. Matthews Sr., 68 of New Fairfield, CT, a devoted husband, loving father, and an exceptional grandfather; passed away peacefully on Friday, November 4th at his home. Jon was born on December 1, 1947 in Wisconsin Rapids, Wisconsin; he was the son of the late Donald and Loretta Matthews. Jon graduated from Lincoln High School in 1965, before joining the Navy immediately after. While stationed in Brooklyn, NY he met his wife, Linda Connors, they were married in 1967. After his honorable discharge in 1968, they eventually settled in New Fairfield in 1976. Jon opened his electrical business in 1982. He worked side by side with his son and made close friendships with everyone he came into contact with. In his spare time, he doubled as a brilliant mechanic. In his garage he worked on cars, including his two 1955 Chevys. One was restored to pristine condition and the other Chevy — from his racing days at Dover Drag Strip — he never got to finish. And despite leaving Wisconsin in his teens, he never lost his Midwest charm and manner. Besides his loving wife of 49 years, he is survived by his three sons, Jonathon and his wife Shari, Mark, Paul and his wife, Monique. In addition, he is loved and missed by his four grandchildren, Jonathon III, Morgan, Luke and Sarah. He is also survived by his brothers David and his wife Cheryl, Thomas and his wife Julie; sister Deborah Ives and her husband Lynn; as well as his several nieces and nephews.Private services took place on Monday, November 7th.Donations in his name can be made to VFW Post 149, Byron St. Danbury, Ct. 06810
