John William Johnson Sr. Oct. 28, 1932 - Nov. 28, 2016 Wade, MS John William "Billy" Johnson Sr., 84, of Wade, MS, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 in Hurley, MS. Billy was born on October 28, 1932 in Big Point, MS to the late William E. and Stella E. Johnson. He was a veteran of the United States Army and National Guard. He dedicated most of his life to public service, serving with the Pascagoula Police Department and with the Jackson County Sheriff's Department. He was well respected by his friends and colleagues. In his spare time, Billy enjoyed hunting and fishing. In addition to his parents, Billy was preceded in death by his first wife and mother to his sons, Katie Johnson, his sister, Ina L. Krause, and by his wife Burta T. Nelson. He is survived by his sons, John William (Dusty) Johnson Jr. and Keith A. (Jennifer) Johnson; step-daughter, Mary Elise (Paul) Fox; grandson, Michael Aaron Smith; along with numerous nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. The visitation will be held on Thursday, December 1, 2016 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. at Heritage Funeral Home in Escatawpa, MS. The funeral service will be held on Friday, December 2, 2016 at 3:00 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. The family will receive friends for one hour prior to the service. Interment will follow at Johnson Cemetery in Wade, MS. The family would like to extend a special thank you to Ms. Chris Webb and the staff of The Oaks Personal Care Home in Hurley, MS for the excellent care that they gave to Billy.
