JOHN S. FARLEY, 89 GERMAN VALLEY - John S. Farley, 89, of German Valley, died Wednesday, January 29, 2014, at FHN Memorial Hospital, surrounded by his family. He was born on December 11, 1924, in Bureau County, IL, the son of Raymond and Daisy (Freer) Farley. John married Doris "Dodie" Poff on October 17, 1948, in Bradford, IL; she died on September 5, 2007. John farmed the family farm for over twenty years, and was a cattle buyer for over twenty years. John was an Army WWII Veteran, earning the following awards: Asiatic Pacific Theatre Ribbon, with one Bronze Battle Star Phillippine Liberation Ribbon, with one Bronze Battle Star Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal, and Army of Occupation Medal (Japan). He was a 1943 graduate of Bradford High School. John was a member of the Bradford American Legion. He was an avid Euchre player. He enjoyed traveling to Arizona, fishing, going to cattle auctions, and spending time with his family and friends, especially his grandchildren. John is survived by his three daughters, Dawn (John) Prahl of Crystal Lake, IL, Deidre Farley of German Valley, IL, and Cindy (Jerry) Jacobs of German Valley, IL; and his two grandchildren Anna Prahl of Crystal Lake, IL and Jesse Jacobs of German Valley, IL. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife. A memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday, February 4, 2014, at Burke-Tubbs Funeral Home, with Rev. Diane Jochum officiating. Visitation will be held from 11 a.m. until the time of service at Burke-Tubbs. A private family burial will take place at a later date at Elm Lawn Cemetery in Princeton, IL.
