John Francis Doherty of Nashua died on November 25, 2016 after a long and courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. He was born on November 20, 1948 in Waltham, MA, the son of Master Sergeant Michael Adrian and Mary (Monahan) Doherty. A lifelong New Hampshire resident, John was raised in Manchester and graduated from Memorial High School in 1966, the University of New Hampshire in 1971, and Antioch Graduate School, with a Master's Degree in Education, in 1973. Mr. Doherty had been a Nashua resident since 1975.John held many positions throughout his nearly five decade long career and retired in 2010 as a Director of Career & Technical Education in Middlebury, VT.John leaves behind the love of his life and college sweetheart, his wife Judith Morin Doherty, whom he married in 1973. They have a beloved daughter, Kathan Bryn Pierce, a wonderful son-in-law Michael Pierce, and two amazing grandsons, Graham Michael and Reid Francis Pierce, all of Medford, MA. John is also survived by a devoted and loving sister and brother-in-law, Kathleen and Walden Whitham, of Richmond, NH.Mr. Doherty joined the philanthropic fellowship Friends of Bill W. in 1992, and was very proud to be an active member of that life-saving organization until his passing. John was also a volunteer for the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network, providing inspiration and counseling to those who were newly diagnosed with the disease. In addition, John volunteered his time as a tax preparer for AARP. He will be remembered for his keen intellect, generosity towards others and warm smile. He was a devoted family man who cared for many beloved family members in their golden years.SERVICES: Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 pm on Wednesday, November 30 at the Davis Funeral Home, One Lock Street, Nashua. A funeral service will be held at 10:00 am on Thursday, December 1 at The First Church, U.C.C. (Congregational), One Concord Street, Nashua. Interment prayers and burial will follow at Edgewood Cemetery. Family and friends are invited to attend. The family requests no flowers.
