John D. HansenRetired Police Officer, John D. Hansen, 58, passed away April 7, 2013 at his home in Juneau, Alaska.He was born on April 15, 1954 to Robert D. Hansen and Eileen V. Hansen (both deceased) in Ruislip, England. He spent his childhood traveling the world in a military family spending time in Germany, Canada, the Philippines, and eventually the United States where he graduated from Foothill High School in Sacramento, CA in 1972.John moved to Juneau, Alaska in 1974 and was employed with the Juneau Police Department as a Canine Officer until 1978 when he became a Patrol Officer for the department. He served the community with dedication and pride for 24 years and retired from the force in 1998.John married Kathy, his wife of 34 years on February 24, 1979 in Petersburg, AK. His hobbies included working on his boat, hunting, fishing, camping, and gold panning.John is preceded in death, by his mother and father. He is survived by his wife, Kathy and children: Ryan Hansen, Krista (Nicholas) White and Brittany Hansen. Grandchildren: Haley Hatch, Kaitlyn Jansen, Kylie, Dakotta and Brianna White. Siblings: Robert (Gabriella) Hansen, Jane Hansen, Steven (Natasha) Hansen and Darlene Hansen; and many nieces and nephews.A memorial service is planned for Saturday, April 13, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at the Tlingit & Haida Community Center, located at 3235 Hospital Drive in Juneau, Alaska. A potluck reception will follow, please bring a dish to share.
