Joe Barrett SPARTANBURG, SC-- Joe Charles Leslie Barrett was born on July 17, 1957 to the late Jonathan Barrett and Addie Simpson Barrett. On Monday, October 31, 2016, he was called to eternal rest. He was the life partner of the late Helen Beatty Dawkins. Joe graduated from Spartanburg High School, Class of 1976. He was a member of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church. Joe worked as a painter and landscaper. Left to cherish fond and loving memories are: his three brothers, Jonathan (Jackie) Barrett of Youngstown, OH, Russell Barrett of New Orleans, LA and Winn Barrett of Spartanburg, SC; his two sisters, Tujina (B. J.) Lyles of Boiling Springs, SC and Gail (Frederick) Jabber of Columbia, SC; his aunt, Willie Mae Simpson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. He was preceded in death by four siblings, William Barrett, Gretchen B. Murphy, John Barrett and Monica B. Dandy. A Celebration of the Life of Joe Charles Leslie Barrett will be held today at 11:00 a.m. at The John Stinson Woodward Memorial Chapel, 602 Howard St., Spartanburg, SC.
