Mrs. Joanne Barrie, age 88 years of Jasper Place, formerly of Barrie Drive, South Stanley, passed away peacefully at TBRHSC on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Joanne was born on March 13, 1928 to Paul and Julia Zizman, and grew up on her family's farm in Sellers. She started teaching at a young age at various rural schools including Stanley, Baird and Slate River and later on at various city Catholic schools. On June 30, 1953, Joanne married her soulmate Bob Barrie. Throughout her life, Joanne enjoyed farming, raising horses, beef cattle and operating the Pony Rides. In 1984, Joanne and Bob began farming full time and in 1987 they joined the Thunder Bay Farmers' Market. Joanne continued on with the Market until the age of 85. It truly was a passion of hers. She was a proud Grandmother and a very proud mother. Joanne will be sadly missed by her sons Paul Robert (Michelle), Mark Sterling (Tina), grandchildren Aundra, Bailey and Cameron, and sister Margaret Bailey, as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Joanne was predeceased by her husband Bob, her parents Paul and Julia Zizman, brothers John and Peter, sisters Mary, Helen and Anne and grandson Andrew Barrie. Cremation has taken place. Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 9, 2017 at 11:00 am in St. Patrick's Cathedral with Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. officiating. Final interment to take place at a later date.
