Joan Robson Pack Obituary

Jan 01, 2016 - Dec 01, 2016

This obituary is administered by:
Joan Robson Pack of Logan, Utah, passed away peacefully on Dec. 23, 2008, due to complications from Alzheimers Disease. She was born on Jan. 13, 1928, in Newcastle-upon-Tyne, England, to Robert and Esme Dobbing Robson. She married Cecil (Jack) Key and had two daughters, Maureen and Doreen. They later divorced. At age 27, she joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. Her mission president's wife convinced her to write to her brother, Maurice Pack, and they corresponded through the mail for several months. Maurice asked Joan to come to America with her two daughters, and after a year of courtship, they married in the Logan LDS Temple.  Mom always had a project of one kind or another going at all times. She was never afraid to learn a new skill. She loved oil painting, ceramics, and making porcelain dolls. She is probably best known for her knitting. She has made hundreds of beautiful sweaters, afghans, hats, scarves, etc. which she has given to friends, family, and humanitarian efforts. She was also known for being one of the greatest cooks and candy makers around. Every Christmas we looked forward to her wonderful pecan rolls, million-dollar fudge, or dipped chocolates. She worked at Bernina and at USU as manager of the Nook, the Hobby Center, and the Sign Shop and Copy Center, where she was a mentor to many college students who worked for her. Years later, many still keep in touch with her. She made friends everywhere she went, and especially enjoyed the friendships she made through painting classes, knitting groups, and the Beehive Brits. Her grandkids often commented that she couldn't go anywhere without meeting several people she knew. She was a wonderful "Nana" to her grandchildren. She felt that no one could take care of them as well as she could, so she always volunteered to baby-sit. Even after Alzheimer's Disease robbed her of her memory, her face would light up anytime one of her grandchildren would come to visit. She was a faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints and served in various positions including Relief Society President, Primary teacher, and temple worker. She is survived by a brother, Bill (Shiela) Robson of Wallsend, England; her children: Maureen Joan (Manfred) Gleim, West Valley City; Doreen Key (Michael Benner), Kuna, Hawaii; Annette (Brent) Colledge, Providence, UT; Suzanne, Coatesville, Pennsylvania; two step-daughters: DaunaV (Ivan) Allred, Twin Falls, Idaho; and Cheryl (Jerry) Holman, Brookings, Oregon. She also has 10 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Maurice; a son, John; and a step-son, Dallan Maurice Pack. Funeral services will be held Saturday, Dec. 27, 2008, at 11 a.m. at the Foothill 1st Ward chapel, 1450 E. 1500 North in Logan. A viewing will be held on Dec. 26 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Nelson Funeral Home and also from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the funeral. Interment will be at the Riverview Cemetery in Tremonton, Utah. Condolences may be extended to the family online at www.nelsonfuneralhome.com. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Alzheimer's Association 225 N. Michigan Ave., Fl. 17, Chicago, Ill., 60601-7633  As a family, we wish to thank the caring staff at Cache Valley Assisted Living and the nurses at Alpine Home Care and Hospice for the loving care they provided our mother during the past several months.
