Joan M. KrierJoan M. Krier, Professional in the Substance Abuse Field, Dies at 76Joan M. Krier died on November 4, 2016, in Rockledge, Florida. The cause was cancer. Mrs. Krier was born on July 7, 1940, in Belfast, N. Ireland. She had five brothers: Desmond, Brendan, Lawrence, John, and Martin Moneypenny. After immigrating to the United States in 1960, she met her husband, Donald A. Krier. They married on September 22, 1962. A longtime resident of New Jersey, they raised four children, Paul, Barbara, Siobhan and Signe. Joan proudly became a U.S. citizen in 1974. After her children entered school, she started working in the substance abuse field. She began as a volunteer and quickly advanced, contributing in the field of treatment, education, and prevention; first as a counselor and then as an administrator. After retiring, Joan and Don moved to Florida. Mrs. Krier enjoyed spending time with her family, shopping, knitting and peanut M&Ms. Joan is survived by Don, her husband of fifty-four years, their children, five grandchildren, her brothers and sisters-in-law, many nieces, nephews, family friends, and her beloved Cairn Terrier, Lucy.
