Joan Alice McClaughry (Capper)It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving Mother Joan Alice McClaughry on July 3rd, 2017. While surrounded by her family, Mom passed peacefully into the next world to be with our Heavenly Father as He was in need of another angel. Mom was born on January 20th, 1934 in Brookston, IN to Thomas and Golda Capper. She was the second child in a large family. Mom graduated from Brookston High School in 1952. She married our Father Richard McClaughry on December 27th 1953 in Brookston, IN. Mom and Dad raised four children. Our family lived in several states as Dad pursued his career in the aeronautical engineering industry. We eventually settled in our family home in Everett, WA in 1969. Mom was a devoted full time mother until after her children were grown. She then pursued a career as a caregiver and activities director in several local assisted living facilities. Mom was passionate about caring for others; always ready with a loving hug, kind words and a big smile. Her blue eyes twinkled and her face always had a loving glow. Mom retired at age 73, however that did not hamper her desire to care for others. Mom had many hobbies and interests, including cooking, baking, painting, gardening, crafting, crossword puzzles, bird watching and reading. Mom was preceded in death by brothers Bobby, Donny and Thomas Jr. Capper; Husband of 37 yrs., Richard McClaughry; and infant Granddaughters Emily Joan and Lainie Rose McClaughry. Mom is survived by her children Michael (Linda) McClaughry, Bob (Sylvia) McClaughry, Steven (Tina) McClaughry and Linda (George) Moore; her siblings Barbara Sutton, Nancy Gordon, Louis (Janet) Capper and Theresa (Pablo) Caudillo; her grandchildren April (Eddie), Adam (Megan), Jason (Daiyne), Doug, David, Jeremy (Crystal) and Brian; great-grandchildren Kaylee and Logan, Skyler, Tyler and Logan (on the way), and Hailey. She also leaves behind Special Family Friends; Betty and Al Peck, Elaine Bryant, all her friends of Brookdale Arbor Place and so many other family members and friends. Mom was strong in her faith and attended Northshore Christian Church for many years. A Celebration of Mom's Life will be held at Evergreen Funeral Home, 4504 Broadway, Everett WA 98203 on July 25th at 1:00pm. Any charitable donations may be made to Mom's favorite charities: National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Fund and St. Labre Indian School.
