Jennie JansmaJennie Jansma, age 105, passed away Wednesday, January 4th, 2017 at the Rock Rapids Health Centre in Rock Rapids, Iowa. Funeral service will be 2:00 p.m. Monday, January 9th, 2017 at First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids, IA with Rev. Dan Haggar officiating. Burial will follow at Riverview Cemetery in Rock Rapids. Visitation will be Sunday, January 8th with family present from 2:00 to 5:00 p.m. at the First Reformed Church in Rock Rapids.Jennie Jansma was born on March 8, 1911, near Alvord, IA, the daughter of Lammert and Janna (Humme) Van Sloten. She attended country school there and at the age of nine she and her family moved to Hull, IA. On January 4, 1933, Jennie was united in marriage to Walter Jansma in Hull, IA. To this union two children were born, Tony and June. The couple farmed near Lester, IA until February 1946, when they moved to a farm 1½ miles west of Rock Rapids. In addition to farming, Walt and Jen started feeding and order buying cattle. Jennie helped Walt grow the cattle operation and when Tony joined the family business it later became Jansma Cattle Company. Jansma Cattle Co. is well known throughout the Midwest and operated today by Tony's family. Her husband Walter passed away on July 5, 1980. Jennie was involved in many church and community activities. She moved to the Rock Rapids Health Centre in 2008 and lived there eight years and three months until her passing on Wednesday, January 4, 2017 at the age of 105. This would have been Jennie's and Walt's 84th Wedding Anniversary. Left to cherish her memory is her daughter, June (Mrs. Leroy) Vos of Kingsley, IA and daughter-in-law, Norma (Mrs. Tony) Jansma of Rock Rapids, IA; seven grandchildren, Wallace and Johna Jansma, Debra (Jansma) Rushing & Doug Rushing, Bonita (Jansma) Schwan, Todd and Andrea Jansma, Janna (Vos) Widman & Craig Walton, Clinton Vos & Carmen Derynck, Russell & Nomi Vos, thirty great-grandchildren and twelve great-great-grandchildren. She was also known as Grandma J or Aunt Jennie by many special nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Jansma; son, Tony Jansma in 2004; son-in-law, Leroy Vos in 2013; and grandson-in-law, Randy Widman in 1997; five sisters and two brothers.
