Jeanne V NicholsAGE: 95 • DenvilleJeanne V Nichols, age 95, peacefully passed away on May 28, 2017 at The Oaks in Denville, NJ.She was born on April 7, 1922 in Bancroft, WI to Elmer and Amy Russell. After graduating high school, Jeanne attended the University of Wisconsin in Madison. She graduated with degrees in Liberal Arts(1943) and Library Science(1944).On June 25, 1944, she married James O Nichols, a mining engineer graduate.Life as newlyweds first took them to Ely, Nevada where their son James A was born in 1945. In 1950, Paul was born in Virginia, MN. A third son, Jon, was born in 1955 at Galax, VA. In 1962, a change of jobs brought the family to Morristown, NJ.Jeanne started working at the Morris County Library in the fall of 1968 as a field librarian and retired in 1993 as Supervisor of Community Outreach/Reader Services. She immensely enjoyed her 25 years of community involvement and service.Jeanne had fond memories of staying in touch with her "Class of 43" UW grads via the UW Half Century Club. While in New Jersey, she was very active in her community. Her 25 year involvement with the Presbyterian Church(Morristown) Women's Circle was very fulfilling. Jeanne's time with the PG Chambers School Auxiliary as the Treasurer and helping with fund raising was memorable. On June 8, 2016, the PG Chambers School Auxiliary honored her for her many years of dedication and service.Jeanne loved baseball (Mets), her Morris County Daily Record (crosswords and Sudoku), reading and was a lifelong student of current events. She enjoyed traveling and her trips to Italy, Australia, Turkey, Hawaii, Fiji and her cruise down the Danube stand out.Jeanne is survived by her sister Lorna(San Diego, CA) and her son Paul(Madison, WI). She was preceded in death by her parents, husband James O and sons James A and Jon.The family extends their gratitude to The Oaks in Denville for providing Jeanne a wonderful independent living opportunity. She loved living at The Oaks. The family is grateful for the compassionate and thoughtful care giving provided by the staff at The Oaks Health and Wellness Center. They went out of their way to make Jeanne feel at home when she no longer could be and allowed her to spend her final days in a graceful and dignified manner.
