A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 12 p.m. Mon., Nov. 23, 2015, at St. Mary's Nativity Church in Raceland for Jeanelle Pitre Griffin, 73, who passed away on Nov. 18, 2015.The Rev. Charles Perkins, pastor, will be the celebrant of the Mass. Con-celebrants will the Revs. Donald Ledet and P.J. Madden.Burial will take place in St. Mary's Nativity Mausoleum in Raceland.Jeanelle, a resident of Lafayette, was the daughter of the late Nolan Pitre and the former Edla Babin. She was born on Nov. 16, 1942, affectionately known as Maw Nel by her beloved grandson, Griffin, and many of his friends and Aunt Nel by her nieces and nephews.Left to cherish her memory are her daughter, Lanette Hebert; son-in-law, Charles; grandson, Griffin; three brothers, Hilton (Boy) Pitre and his wife, Audrey, Murphy Pitre and his wife, Pam and Ray Pitre; one sister, Peggy Boudreaux and her husband, Edward (Pookie); sister-in-law, Nazy LeBouef and her husband, Lee; brothers-in-law, Roy Griffin and his wife, Deanna, Roland Griffin and his wife, Diane, Lester Griffin and his wife, Mona, as well as many nieces and nephews.She touched many lives with her kindness and caring nature. Ms. Griffin was a retired librarian with the Lafourche Parish School Board. She also volunteered with 4-H program, St. Mary's Nativity, Cathedral of St. John the Evangelist and other charitable organizations. She enjoyed sewing and sharing this talent with family, friends and several charities. She found great joy in visiting with friends and family.Preceded in death are her parents; husband, Hubert Griffin; son, Michael; sister-in-laws, Kathleen Pitre and Geraldine Pitre. She was also preceded in death by in-laws, Abel and Judith Griffin.The family wishes to thank Heart of Hospice and Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for their compassionate care especially Drs. Dave J. Barrios III, Chancellor E. Donald, Jorge Belgodere and Matthew D. Williams. A special thanks to her caregivers Tammy Sonnier, Liz Lindon and Sandra Eaglin.In lieu of flowers, the family requests Mass intentions, or donations to St. Thomas More football or basketball programs, 450 E. Farrel Road, Lafayette, LA 70508, as one of her greatest joys was watching Griffin play and in her illness listening or watching the broadcasted games.The family requests that visiting hours be observed at Delhomme Funeral Home on Sunday, Nov. 22, 2015 from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 pm. A Rosary will be recited by Fr. Neil Pettit at 7:30 pm Sunday in the funeral home. Visiting hours will continue on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of service at St. Mary's Nativity Church, 3500 La. 1, Raceland, LA 70394.Pallbearers will be Griffin Hebert, Tommy Pitre, Chuck Pitre, Bobby Pitre, Lane Pitre and Danny LeBouef.
