Trenchard, Jean SansoucieJean Sansoucie Trenchard formerly of Trumansburg passed away peacefully in the comfort of her caregivers at the Old Hundred in Ithaca on June 28, 2017 at the age of 88.Jean was born on January 4, 1929 in Ithaca, a daughter of the late Nelson and Grace (Tucker) Sansoucie. After graduating from Ithaca High School, she married Doug Trenchard in 1947 and the newlyweds moved to Trumansburg where they built their first home. She was a waitress at Taughannock Farms Inn throughout the 1950's before eventually taking a job at Cornell University after moving to Ithaca in 1956 where they built their second home. Jean proudly became the Administrative Assistant for the Department Chair at the Agronomy Department at Cornell, a position she held for many years prior to her retirement. While living in Ithaca, Jean and Doug were very active in the Scouting Program, Varna Community Center, and First Congregational Church. Summers were spent enjoying their cottage on Cayuga Lake relaxing with family and friends. After both Jean and Doug retired from Cornell, the two moved back to Trumansburg to restore a historical home built in the 1800's. Jean was a member of the Ulysses Historical Society and was an active volunteer for many years at the Gemm Shop, until health issues restricted her volunteering. She was an avid bird watcher, enjoyed fishing, gardening, baking, and co-piloting many travels across the country with Doug in their camper. Always a lover of animals, her house was home to several varieties of farm animals as well as numerous beloved cats and a long line of loyal dogs named Pixie. Her greatest joy in life was being the worlds best grandma and enjoying every moment spent with her three grandchildren. Jean is survived by her husband of 70 years, Douglas Trenchard; two children, Thomas (Carla) Trenchard and Deborah (Bruce) Carpenter; three grandchildren; Lauren, Taylor (Alexa), and Teddy Trenchard; and two step grandchildren, Aaron and Jason Carpenter. In addition to her parents, Jean was preceded in death by a brother, Louis Sansoucie; and two sisters, Bertha Hubbell and Blanch Stout. The family will be present to receive friends from 10:00 to 11:00am on Monday, July 3, 2017 at the Ness-Sibley Funeral Home, 23 South Street, Trumansburg. A Funeral Service will immediately follow at 11:00am at the funeral home.
