Jean FergusonJuly 13, 1930 - Nov. 18, 2016ELKHART - Jean M. Ferguson, 86, passed away on Friday, November 18, 2016 in Indianapolis while surrounded by her family. Jean was born on July 13, 1930 at home in Garrett, Indiana to Merl and Maretha Kelham. She graduated from Franklin College with a degree in Education. She later earned a Masters Degree from the University of St. Francis in Ft. Wayne, Indiana. Jean began her teaching career in 1952 and taught various kindergarten, 2nd and 4th grade classes as well as reading to elementary students. She retired from teaching in 1995. Jean married Ralph A. Ferguson on June 15, 1952 at the First Methodist Church in Marion, Indiana. Mrs. Ferguson enjoyed not only reading, but tutoring children in reading, baking ducky cookies for her grandchildren, and spending time with family. She was a devoted and loving wife, mother, and grandmother who will be deeply missed. Jean is survived by her daughters, Paula (Augustus) DeAngelo of Houston, TX, Karen (Jeff) Delozier of McCordsville, IN, and Pamela (Brian) Laughlin of Avon, IN; grandchildren, Natalie Delozier, Jeffrey Delozier II, Nicole Delozier and Alexis Perkins; step-grandchildren, Kylie Laughlin and Cole Laughlin; and her brother, Tom (Kate) Kelham of Avilla, IN. Jean was preceded in death by her loving husband, Ralph Ferguson and her sister, Betty Jo Knafel. Mrs. Ferguson's arrangements have been entrusted to Walley-Mills Zimmerman Funeral Home at 700 East Jackson Blvd. in Elkhart. Visitation will begin at 12 pm until service at 1:30 pm on Tuesday, November 22, 2016 at the funeral home. Burial will be at Rice Cemetery after services. Serving as Pallbearers are Augustus DeAngelo, Jeff Delozier, Brian Laughlin, Tom Knafel, Pat Knafel, Jeffrey Delozier II, Tom Kelham, and Kevin Kelham.
