Janet Payne HummerSHREVEPORT, LA - Janet Payne Hummer, 82, passed away peacefully at home on March 4, 2017 in Shreveport, Louisiana surrounded by her family. A visitation celebrating her life will be held on Saturday, March 11, 2017 from 12-2 pm at Hill Crest Memorial Funeral Home followed by a graveside service officiated by Reverend Peter Gaughan from Broadmoor United Methodist Church.Janet was born on May 1, 1934 in Leesburg, Virginia to Mary M. Payne and Claude M. Payne. She graduated from the University of Virginia School of Nursing and then married her husband of 60 years, Walter L. Hummer. They enjoyed traveling together and developing lifelong friendships while in the Air Force.She was a wonderful wife, mother and grandmother, who loved attending her grandchildren's activities.She was preceded in death by her parents, and her brother Dave Payne.Left to cherish her memories are her husband, Walter Hummer; her daughters, Karen Craig (Johnny), Emily Naus (Chip), and Anne Weldon; her grandchildren, Claire Naus, Abbie Naus, Megan Rast, Jenny Naus, Jacob Rast, Grace Weldon and Maggie Weldon; her brothers Bud Payne (Becky), Joe Payne (Mary Jo) and Doug Payne and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.The family sincerely appreciates the many kind and wonderful doctors, nurses, sitters, hospice and healthcare team members who cared for her.Pallbearers will be Johnny Craig, Chip Naus, Joe Payne, Jeff Putnam, Jacob Rast, ,Ivory Wiggins and Roger Yielding.In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to Shreveport , Pet Savers of Shreveport, or the .You may offer condolences to the family by visiting www.hillcrestmemorialfh.com.
