She had a way of making every person she met feel like they were the most interesting and important person on the Earth. Mrs. Hicks retired as the Colebrook District Court Clerk in 1994. She was an avid reader and accomplished painter. Her garden was more of a life's opus than a hobby. Health and nutrition was a life-long focus for Janet. She was an adventurer who explored many corners of the world. Her passion was service to others through the Monadnock Congregational Church where she was a beloved Sunday School teacher and a member of the choir. Her crystal clear mezzo soprano could be heard for almost 60 years. Most everyone in town has, at one time or another, admired wreaths with bows she tied for the annual Christmas Bazaar. In her earlier years, Janet enjoyed being a member of the Colebrook Garden Club, book clubs, exercise clubs, Bible Studies at the Monadnock Congregational Church, participating in area choirs and acting in town plays that raised money for Colebrook's school system. In her final days, when asked what she believed her greatest life's accomplishment was, she replied, "My children and grandchildren." There are no public calling hours.
