BURDIN, JAMES WILLIAM Mr. James William Burdin passed away on Sunday, November 20, 2016 in Miami, FL at the age of 90. Jim was born on January 26, 1926 at Miami Jackson Hospital to the late Howard Lee and Elizabeth Belle Burdin. He was preceded in death by his older brother Howard Lee Burdin, Jr.; brother in law Alfred (Chick) B. Carter, Jr.; nephew Alfred B. Carter III; nephew Leslie Howard Lambert. Jim was a lifelong and proud resident of Miami. He graduated from Miami High in 1943. He played on the state champion basketball team of 1942 with a group of young men that remained friends throughout their respective lives. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill while also serving in a U.S. Navy V-12 unit during WWII. Graduating in 1947, he returned to Miami and began his career in the accounting profession. He worked for the firm of Ring, Mahoney & Arner and then went on to serve and complete his career as an executive with Greater Miami Federal Savings and Loan. Jim united in marriage with Ann Katherine Marshall on April 14, 1956 and celebrated over 60 wonderful and loving years together. He is survived by his wife Ann, son James Marshall Burdin and his wife Cheryl and their daughters Ashley and Kyndal of Boynton Beach, FL; daughter Elizabeth Burdin Mueller and her husband John and their son Joseph of Southern Pines, NC. He also leaves behind a sister, Elsie Burdin Carter of Marietta, GA and her children Bonnie Carter Miller, Randy Carter, and Kim Carter Thompson along with their spouses Fred, Sarah, and Mike, respectively and their children; a niece, Janet Lambert and her son Leslie Lambert, Jr. Throughout his years, Jim was an avid sports fan and in particular a dedicated follower of Carolina basketball. His love of North Carolina was also evident by the many family vacations taken to the mountains of the western part of the state. As part of the "greatest generation" he shared his experiences of living during the depression, WWII, and the Cold War, ensuring that his family will continue to understand the commitment and sacrifices made to help shape our nation. He was an extremely loving grandfather, always sharing his exceptional wit and humor to his grandchildren's enjoyment. A celebration of life will be held on December 30, 2016, at 11AM in the East Ridge Retirement Village Auditorium in Cutler Bay, FL.
