XENIA — James Howard Wallace, departed his earthly life on December 5, 2016. He was born on July 26, 1937, in Oak Hill, Ohio (Jackson County, OH) to Ottie James Wallace and Nellie Ceola (Snyder) Wallace. He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Daniel M. Wallace, who died in childhood, and sister, Vicky L. Wallace, who died at birth. He is survived by his wife, Joy Alyce (Ogilvie) Wallace; two sons, Brian T. Wallace (Laura) of West Chester, OH and Benjamin T. Wallace (Elizabeth) of Xenia, OH. He has four grandchildren: Joshua and Isaac Wallace of West Chester, Kylie and Koen Wallace of Xenia. He has four brothers: Robert S. Wallace, of Columbus, OH, Franklin D. Wallace, of Springfield, Ohio, John S. Wallace (Velma), of Springfield, OH, and Charles D. Wallace (Marsha) of Oak Hill, OH. He has three sisters: Esther L. Young (Clyde) of Reynoldsburg, OH, Emily M. McIver (Willard) of Columbus, OH, and Judy Reed (John) of Saint Paris, OH and brother-in-law, Robert W. Ogilvie (Betty), of Charleston, South Carolina, and sister-in-law, Phyllis J. Dodrill (Delmar) of Athens, OH, and many nieces, nephews and great-nieces and nephews. Howard loved his career as a public school teacher and supervisor. He was a graduate of Oak Hill HS, Greenville College, Greenville, IL (BA Education) and Marshall University, Huntington, WV (MA Education Administration). He began his employment as a teacher and assistant principal in the Jefferson Local School District, Oak Hill, OH, from 1960-1965. He moved to Xenia City School District in 1965 as a teacher and a secondary curriculum supervisor (grades 7-12) from 1965 – 1993. While teaching at Xenia High School, he received the Martha Holden Jennings Scholar Award 1977-1978. During 1995-1998, Howard concluded his career as principal at Heritage Christian School, Xenia, OH. Howard had a love of music. He played the organ, piano and accordion. He served in many churches as a pianist and organist including: Monroe Chapel, Oak Hill, OH, Xenia First Church of the Nazarene, Wright Place Apartments (inter-faith service), Xenia, OH and many other Methodist Churches throughout Greene County, OH. Howard accepted Christ as his personal Savior during his teenage years, and he remained diligent in his faith throughout his lifetime. He was a longtime member of the Xenia First Church of the Nazarene. He was respected as Sunday School Teacher, and he believed firmly in the scripture, "Study to show yourself approved, a workman who needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth." One of his favorite scriptures was: "The Lord is my light and my salvation of whom shall I fear." Psalm 27:1. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 10, 2016 at 12 noon at Tobias Funeral Home, 3970 Dayton-Xenia Rd, Beavercreek, OH 45432. Interment to follow in Valley View Memorial Gardens. The family will receive friends from 10 AM until the time of service on Saturday morning.
