PembrokeMr. James Ray Jernigan, 92, passed away at his residence on Sunday, December 4, 2016 surrounded by his loving family. Mr. Jernigan was born on August 11, 1924 in Altus, OK. He was a long time resident of Pembroke. He served in the South Pacific during WWII in the U.S. Army; he also retired from Pan American Airline of California after 28 years of service. Mr. Jernigan and his wife moved to Pembroke in 1983. He retired from Gulfstream after 6 years of service. Mr. Jernigan became a locksmith for Pembroke and a correctional officer for Bryan County Sheriff's Department for a brief period. He enjoyed woodworking and building cabinets for local businesses.He is preceded in death by his son, William John Jernigan and daughter, Donna Lynn Johnson.He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Theresa J. Jernigan; son, James Randall Jernigan; 5 grandchildren, Theresa Lynn, Christian and Shawn Johnson of Florida, Jared Jernigan of Massachusetts, Joseph Jernigan of Pooler; 2 great-grandchildren, Megan Lanier of Statesboro and Marcus Johnson of Pembroke. Graveside service will be held on Wednesday, December 7, 2016 at 11 a.m. at Northside Cemetery with Pastor Edward Dees officiating.
