Gallatin, JamesJames R. Gallatin, 81, Marshfield, died on Saturday, October 28, 2017 in the emergency room of Marshfield Medical Center. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Wednesday, November 1, 2017 at Trinity Lutheran Church, Marshfield, with Rev. Jon Guenther officiating. Burial will take place in Trinity Lutheran Church Cemetery. The visitation will be from 4:00 pm until 8:00 pm on Tuesday at Rembs Funeral Home and from 10:00 am on Wednesday until service time at Trinity Lutheran Church. James was born on June 16, 1936 in Wisconsin Rapids, to Elmer and Verna (Hafermann) Gallatin. He attended Mill Creek Grade School in the Town of Marshfield and graduated from Marshfield Senior High School in 1954. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving from September of 1954 until his honorable discharge in August of 1956. He married Patricia A. Korth on June 22, 1957 at Immanuel Lutheran Church, Hewitt. Jim had been employed at Roddis Plywood Corporation and later Weyerhaeuser Company. He served those two businesses in various capacities including assignments in Marshfield, Ridgeway, PA and Vernville, SC. He retired from Weyerhaeuser Co. in April 1995. After retirement, Jim worked part time for two years for Connor Forest Industries located in Wakefield, MI. For 20 years Jim and Patty provided horse drawn wagon and sleigh rides at their Pine Ranch and also at community functions. Jim also served on the board of Directors for trees for tomorrow in Eagle River, the MACCI Board and Fire and Police Commission in Marshfield. While serving on the MACCI Board Jim was instrumental in starting the MACCI Gift Certificate program for all Marshfield businesses. He served for many years on church councils and committees. He enjoyed working for his church out of love for his Savior. Jim is survived by his wife of 60 years, Patty and two sons, Randall at home and Richard (Diane) Gallatin of Marshfield, two step grandchildren, Steven Banks and Elizabeth (Trent) Willfahrt, and two great grandchildren, Connor and Wyatt Willfahrt. He is further survived by five sisters, Janice (the late Richard) Korth, Jeanne (Donald) Weis, Joyce (James) Korth, Joan (Dewey) Lynch and Julie (Robert) Breu and eight nieces and eight nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother-in-law, Richard Korth, and his mother-in-law and father-in-law, Anita and Herald Korth.
