James R. Knaub IISpring GroveJames Richard Knaub II, 69, passed away on April 23, 2017 at Hospice and Community Care in Mount Joy with his loving family by his side. He was the devoted husband of Lorraine (Edris) Knaub. Together they shared 46 years of marriage.James was born on June 28, 1947 in York. He was a graduate of Spring Grove High School. He served in the United States Navy for four years during which time he was a member of the Navy Band before completing two tours of duty in Vietnam. He was a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers and Local #542. He served as a welder, master mechanic and heavy equipment operator for over 30 years. After several business ventures he returned to pipeline as an inspector, chief and ultimately project manager. He became a Freemason of the Zeredetha Masonic Lodge #0451 in 1972. He attended the Church of the Open Door in York and Bethlehem United Methodist Church in Jefferson. James enjoyed music, fishing, hunting, grilling, reading about history, watching westerns, street rods and muscle cars, traveling, playing cards and most of all, loved spending time with his children and grandchildren.James was a son of the late James R. and Royce (Almoney) Knaub. He was also predeceased by his younger brother, Timothy Knaub. James is survived by his loving wife, Lorraine; his daughter, Maria Kann and husband, David Kann; his son, James Knaub III and wife, Megan of Media; and two grandchildren Logan and Jacob Knaub. He is also survived by sister, Joanne Kraft; brother, Michael Knaub (Maribeth) of Pittsburgh; and sister, Rebecca Ambrose (Michael); as well as several nieces and nephews.A viewing will be held on Thursday from 4 to 6 p.m. at the Church of the Open Door, 8 Carlisle Ct., York, followed by a celebration of life service at 6 p.m. with the Rev. Don Wagner officiating.
