James D. Perry Sr., age 84, of Oscoda died on Saturday, July 6, 2013 at his home. He was born on Nov. 14, 1928 in Detroit to the late Robert and Ada Lenora Perry (nee Corbett). Jim graduated from Detroit Cooley High School and later served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict. He then worked for several years for Ford Motor Company as a test engineer at the Livonia Transmission Plant, where he met and married his wife Arvetta. Jim retired in 1983 and moved to Oscoda and later started spending winters in Port Charlotte, Fla. with his wife. He was active member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles in Oscoda where he enjoyed hanging out with his friends, cooking and organizing horseshoe tournaments. Jim was also a softball player for Ford Motor Company, baseball umpire for 25 years, youth baseball coach and a coach for the Irish Pub women's softball team that participated in the national tournament in Eugene, Ore. He enjoyed golfing and hunting and he was an avid baseball and football fan. Jim is survived by his two sons, James D. (Gina) Perry Jr. of Union Lake and Jeff (Tammy) Perry of Holly; son-in-law, Douglas Bratton of Union Lake; two sisters, Donna Rabadue of Macosta and Janet (Roger) Swartz of Fla.; nine grandchildren and five great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Arvetta, in 2002; daughter, Julie Ann Bratton, in 2013; and brother, Ralph Perry. A tribute dinner will be held on Saturday, Aug. 3 at 3:30 p.m. at the Oscoda Eagles Club.
