James "Jim" D. DonnellyCottonwood, CA1933 - 2017Chief Warrant Officer James "Jim" D. Donnelly, 83, died in his home in Cottonwood, CA on January 11, 2017. A veteran of the Korean and
Vietnam Wars, he was awarded the
Bronze Star and numerous other medals.CW2 Donnelly was born on February 14, 1933 in Winooski, Vermont to David & Theresa Donnelly. In 1949, he joined the National Guard and was assigned to Korea. With a brief break in service he rejoined the Army in 1956 and was assigned to many duty stations to include Germany; Aberdeen Proving Grounds, Maryland; Ft. Waynewright, Alaska; Fort Lewis, WA and two tours of Vietnam.CW2 Donnelly was a brave and loyal soldier, as well as a devoted and loving husband/father. He married Evelyn L. Howell, in 1956. After serving his country for 24 years, he retired to Cottonwood, CA, with his family; where he enjoyed "round up" time with the many ranchers in Cottonwood; he was also the owner/operator of "Rough Cut Lumber Co."He is survived by his daughter, Theresa (Harold); his sons, Robert (Jennifer), David (Antoinette), Don (Cindy) & Danny; his 12 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren, 5 sisters and many more loved ones. He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Evelyn of 59 years; 1 sister; 2 brothers and parents.Military Honors will take place at the Northern California Veterans Cemetery in Igo, CA on Monday, January 23, 2017 at 12:30 pm.
