He served as a Tawas City Council member from 1971-1985, Tawas City Mayor from 1985-1999, volunteered on the Tawas City Fire Department from 1949-1999 and during those 50 years on the fire department, Jim also presided as Tawas City Fire Chief for a long time. He had the distinct privilege of earning the prestigious Iosco County Fireman of the Year award in 1987 for his efforts. Jim will truly be missed and remembered by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his beloved wife, Lois Lansky; three loving children, Linda (Jerry) Walters of Spring Lake, James (Deborah) Lansky II and Brian (Donna) Lansky of East Tawas; grandchildren, Michelle (Trevor) Hinshaw, Amanda (Eric) Wentzloff, Rachelle (Michael) Warner, Jessica (Kurtis) Barnhart, James (Andrea) Lansky, Jacob Lansky and Elizabeth Sumpter; 13 great grandchildren; six nieces and three nephews; and so many special friends.
