Jama K. Montgomery, 87Muncie - Jama Kirby Montgomery, age 87 died on Sunday December 11, 2016 at I.U. Health Ball Memorial Hospital in Muncie, Indiana.Jama was born on July 24, 1929 in Muncie, Indiana to parents, Chester "Bud" and Gladys (Cowgill) Kirby.She attended Muncie Central High School and Ball State Teacher's College, majoring in home economics. She married William Francis Montgomery on June 27, 1953 at St. Ambrose Church in Anderson, Indiana. Jama taught home economics and English until her retirement in 1996. Jama is preceded in death by two sons, Blaine Montgomery and Brian A. Montgomery; parents, Chester "Bud" and Gladys (Cowgill) Kirby, husband William F. Montgomery, and sister Glenda Westerman.She is survived by sons Bruce (Kathy) Montgomery and Barry (Donna) Montgomery, sister Zola (Don) Fedor, brother Pete (Pat) Kirby, grandchildren Brian R. Montgomery, Amie (Thomas) Pike, Jason (Amanda) Montgomery, Barry (Tracy) Montgomery, Karen (Johnathan "Clay") Walker, Nicole (Bert) Conners, and Ross (Cathy) Woodard, and five great-grandchildren. Several nieces and nephews.Mrs. Montgomery was a 4-H leader for over 50 years. She spent most of her career teaching home economics at Alexandria Junior High. She was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church in Muncie and Daughters of Isabella. She supported organizations such as USA Olympics, World Wildlife Fund, Ball State Alumni Association, and . She loved to travel and wear her signature black hats. She never met a stranger and was always available to give baking tips to former students and past 4-H club members. Jama loved to attend performances at Emens Auditorium.Visitation will be Thursday, December 15, 2016 from 4-8 p.m. at the Parson Mortuary and from 12 noon until the time of service on Friday. A rosary service will be held at 7 p.m. on Thursday.Funeral Mass will be held Friday, December 16, 2016 at 1 p.m. at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Muncie, Indiana with Ft. Andrew Dudzinski officiating.
