XENIA — Jack P. Roebuck age 94 of Xenia, Ohio died on Thursday, March 31 at Legacy Assisted Living in Xenia. He was born on October 10, 1921 in Spring Hill, Pennsylvania to Mary (Kensik) and Andrew Roebuck. At the age of 17 he left home and joined the Civilian Conservation Corps. During World War II he enlisted in the U. S. Army Air Force and was stationed in England. He was part of a daylight Allied bombing squad on May 15, 1943 that crashed and was recovered by the Germans in the North Sea. Jack spent two years in the infamous German Stalag 17 and was eventually liberated on April 15, 1945 after a seventeen day 200 mile forced march west to the Allied front. In the 1950's he served in Korea during the Korean War. Jack married Mary Ann (Bubnich) on July 5, 1947 and continued a 20 year career with the Air Force until his retirement in 1963. He served as a postal carrier in Xenia until his retirement in 1983. Jack was a gardener extraordinaire, an outdoorsman, a woodsman, a canoeist, a baseball enthusiast and the official founder of his family's Clean Plate Club. He was known for his abundant vegetable harvest which he generously shared with family and friends. Throughout his life he was an avid reader and a lifelong learner and he shared that love of knowledge with his family. He is survived by his sister, Alice Roebuck Nevedale, Point Marion, PA; daughter Deborah Wood (Richard) of Kansas City, Missouri; son, Paul Roebuck (Michele) of Xenia and daughter, Teresa Contini (Stephen) of Granville, Ohio. He is grandfather to Erin Wood Krug (Bryan), Jonathan Wood (Lindsay), Christine Roebuck Stahl (Michael) Amanda Roebuck McGill (Jon), Douglas Roebuck, Emily Contini and Nick Contini. He is the great-grandfather of Jackson and Ellie Wood; Bennett and Margot Krug; Maggie and Julia Stahl and Fiona McGill. He is uncle and grand-uncle to many nieces and nephews. Jack was predeceased in death by his parents, Andrew and Mary and by his brothers John, Andrew, Walter, Michael and by his sisters Bridget, Ann, and Katie. Visitation will be Tuesday, April 5th at 10:00 am at Emmanuel Baptist Church in Xenia followed at 11:00 am by a funeral service at the church.
