Jack Bob SmithBradyJack Bob Smith, 90, of Brady, passed away on the morning of Friday, March 17, 2017 in Brady. Jack Bob was born on Oct. 9, 1926, in Lohn, Texas to Embre George Smith and Lanning (Batchelor) Smith. He was raised in Lohn and graduated from Lohn High School. He served in the United States Army during the final months of World War II. Jack Bob married Peggy Nell Jacoby on July 3, 1959 in De Leon, Texas, and they had one son, Jack Bob Jr., born in 1961. Jack Bob was actively involved in the "Heart-of-Texas" community and served in many influential roles. A voice for the farmers and ranchers of McCulloch County, Jack Bob served as the vice president of the Cattleman's Production Credit Association (PCA) in Brady from 1961 to 1981, and as a director of the Texas Sheep & Goat Raisers Association in the 1960's. He also served as a director of the July Jubilee and served on the board of directors for McCulloch County Soil and Water Conservation District (from 1989 to 2003) and the McCulloch County Tax Appraisal District. He was also affiliated with the First Methodist Church in Brady for many years. Following his retirement from the Cattleman's PCA, Jack Bob spent the majority of his time alongside his wife, Peggy, working cattle and tending to their land. He loved to take his grandchildren out to the country to work cattle, fish, or ride 4-wheelers. He also enjoyed following his grandsons to golf tournaments throughout the state and created many wonderful memories during those years.Graveside services for Jack Bob Smith will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, March 21, in Rest Haven Cemetery in Brady, with Reverend Phil Steinbach officiating. The family will receive friends from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Monday evening at Leatherwood Memorial Chapels in Brady. Pallbearers will be Chris Murray, Ronnie Moore, Stephen Broad, Mike Finlay, John Newman and Chris Wirths. Honorary Pallbearers will be Leroy Keese and Jerrell Hemphill.Jack Bob Smith is survived by his wife of 57 years, Peggy Jacoby Smith of Brady; son Jack Bob Smith Jr. and his wife Lauri of Brady; daughters Cheryl Bruner and husband David of Jasonville, Indiana, Susan Booher and husband Junior of Granite Shoals, and Annette Denbo of San Antonio. Grandchildren include Embre Jay Smith and wife McKenzie of Riverside, California, Garrett Jacoby Smith and wife Emily of Huntsville; Catherine Bailey and husband Matt of Jasonville, Indiana, and Tiffany Pointer and husband Nathan of Jasonville, Indiana. He was preceded in death by his parents and brother, Dick G. Smith.
